NEWS: MISO's new method for capacity accreditation benefits storage more than solar

MISO is shifting how it values capacity, and storage stands to gain. (Renewable Energy World)

  • Starting in the 2028/29 planning year, MISO will move from average Effective Load Carrying Capability (ELCC) ratings to a Direct Loss of Load (DLOL) method that heavily weights performance during the top 65 โ€œat-riskโ€ hours each season.ย

  • That approach disadvantages solar that may not produce during peak evening or morning ramp hours but rewards storage that can discharge on demand.
