A geothermal startup just used AI to find a massive hidden power source in the Nevada desert. (Axios)
The discovery: Zanskar’s AI prediction engine identified the “Big Blind” site by modeling underground heat anomalies, marking the first time in over 30 years a commercially viable system has been discovered without obvious surface clues.
The efficiency: By using algorithms to target “deeper and more precisely,” the company claims it can drastically reduce the industry’s biggest cash burn: drilling expensive ”dry holes” that go nowhere.
The bigger picture: It challenges the industry assumption that all the naturally occurring geothermal sites are already tapped out. Co-founder Joel Edwards argues “there’s a wave of these things coming” as power demand peaks.
