NEWS: U.S. developers report half of new electric generating capacity will come from solar

Developers are on track to add a record 64 GW of new US power capacity in 2025, with solar doing more than half of the heavy lifting. (EIA)

  • In the first half of this year, 12 GW of new utility-scale solar came online, with another 21 GW planned before year-end—enough to make this year the biggest solar buildout in history. Texas leads the charge, adding nearly 13 GW alone.

  • Battery storage is the second-biggest story, with 5.9 GW of capacity additions in the first half of the year.
