BOEM | Offshore Wind Lease Sale in Guam in 2028; Completes Hawaii Port Study, Fifth Task Force Meeting

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced that it will hold its first Guam Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force meeting on September 11, 2024.

The meeting will take place in person in Guam, with a virtual participation option available. This task force has been established at the request of Guam’s Governor, Lourdes "Lou" Aflague Leon Guerrero, and marks the first step in BOEM’s renewable energy authorisation process.

Additionally, the task force will provide guidance on the legal and regulatory aspects of offshore wind projects and facilitate information exchange regarding the environmental and cultural resources of the area.

While the task force itself is composed of government representatives, all meetings will be open to the public and will include Q&A sessions led by BOEM. This transparency is part of BOEM’s commitment to involving Chamorro communities, local stakeholders, and the public in the renewable energy planning process.

BOEM has already conducted several environmental studies relevant to Guam, which will help inform decisions on potential offshore wind energy projects. More information on these studies can be found on the BOEM website.
