Standard Solar to soon deliver rooftop project to Richmond schools

December 3 (Renewables Now) - US firm Standard Solar Inc said Tuesday it will soon finalise the construction of 2.9 MW of rooftop solar arrays for Richmond Public Schools (RPS) in the state of Virginia.
Ten elementary and high schools in the city of Richmond will be fitted with solar arrays that will be able to cover around 24% of the school system's power needs.
The solar company said it funded, designed and built the projects, and will have them ready for delivery this year. It will also be responsible for their operation.
The projects are backed with a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with RPS, designed so as not to incur upfront capital cost to the Richmond school district, Standard Solar said.
