First reactor to go offline as part of Belgium's nuclear phase-out

A few dozens demonstrators and local politicians gathered in Doel on Friday protesting the shut down, Belga reported.
A second reactor is scheduled to be taken off the grid in February in Tihange; three more reactors are to be shut down in 2025.
The first two reactors targeted by the phase-out are known for their safety issues. Both have been shut down repeatedly since cracks were discovered in the reactor pressure vessels in 2012 and other problems.
