Become a Senior Advisor of Wholesale Energy and Emissions Markets at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll develop policy positions and design elements with respect to wholesale energy and GHG emissions markets, including CAISO market design and various products as well as regional market issues including the CAISO’s energy imbalance market and development of an expanded regional day ahead market and regional resource adequacy.  This Senior Advisor also develops policy positions and design elements with respect to a new resource adequacy framework. The Senior Advisor will have an opportunity to coordinate with energy procurement, evaluate and implement rules to achieve economic efficiency, practical implementation, and the company’s and the state’s policy objectives towards a zero net carbon future. This includes policy and rule development for integrating zero-carbon resources, energy storage, distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and smart-grid technology.  The Senior Advisor will review developments in electricity and emission markets within California, the western United States and elsewhere to determine best practices and to develop new and innovative designs to address the rapidly evolving electricity market framework.  The Senior Advisor will work with internal stakeholders including power procurement, law, and customer service as well as interface with external agencies including the California Independent System Operator, the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).  This position is a key opportunity to help achieve the company’s long-term vision towards a sustainable and zero-carbon electricity system aligned with customer affordability.

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright! 

  • Reviews a variety of regulatory proceedings and stakeholder processes to evaluate their impact on SCE and the energy and/or emissions markets. 

  • Project manages diverse internal, and at times external, stakeholders to develop policy positions, rules, and regulatory filings. 

  • Works with internal stakeholders to develop a position for SCE and works with external stakeholders to develop alliances, make presentations, advocate for the adoption with agencies and regulators as necessary. 

  • Represents SCE’s positions in various internal and external forums, including work with regulators, via both written and oral presentation. 

  • Works with the SCE legal department as necessary to file pleadings with the applicable regulatory authority to represent SCE’s positions.

The essentials 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Engineering, or other related discipline applied directly to electricity and emissions markets.

  • 10 years of combined experience applying economics and/or engineering disciplines to electricity or emissions markets, experience in regulatory processes of developing and administering markets, or experience in transacting with or interacting with regulated electricity markets or experience in regulatory economics of utilities

The preferred  

  • A Master’s degree in Economics, Engineering or other related discipline applied directly to electricity and emission markets. 

  • Experience in energy commodities markets including ISOs/RTOs. 

  • Experience in regulatory and/or legislative processes, including regulated utilities. 

  • Experience in generation dispatch and the operation of electrical systems. 

  • Proven experience working with internal and external clients to reach consensus on issues. 

  • Demonstrated business writing ability including making persuasive arguments. 

  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
