We currently have an outstanding opportunity available for a qualified professional to supervise and coordinate the work of Power Dispatching and Real Time Energy Trading personnel; ensure that Energy Control Center (ECC) personnel are fully trained; and perform related work as required.

You will supervise the operation of the power system and scheduling of energy resources and transmission; ensure reliable and safe operation of the electric system; coordinate the scheduling of generation; prepare, develop, and maintain operating instructions; develop and monitor ongoing training programs; monitor system reports and data to ensure system operations are performed appropriately; monitor historical system data for forecasting system demands; coordinate system operation and equipment installation, maintenance, and repair; supervise the operation of equipment located in substations; coordinate changes to and operation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer-based control systems; supervise, train, and evaluate employees; make recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, and disciplinary action; and occasionally drive on City business. May act in the absence of the next level supervisor.

Requires HS grad or equivalent and three years experience in electric system operation from a central control facility; or five years experience in the purchase, sale, or marketing of energy; or five years experience as a trainer or a training coordinator of power system operators; or three years experience as an operating or planning engineer of a high voltage electric transmission and/or distribution system OR any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance as determined by the City. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent and a valid North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) certification as a NERC Certified System Operator – Reliability are also required at time of hire.

Additional qualifications include knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical transmission and distribution; utility operations including the purchase, sale, transmission/transfer of energy, switching, electrical system restoration and outage management, financial and trading risks, and safety practices in electrical operation and maintenance; principles and practices of supervision, training, and performance evaluations. Ability to lead and develop a section working 24 hours a day; respond to emergencies when required; train ECC personnel; prepare training materials, instructions, and operating manuals; prepare reports; interpret electrical schematic drawings; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public is also needed.

We offer a starting salary of $10,306 to $13,552 per month plus superb benefits including City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
