Deseret Power, a regional electrical generation, and transmission cooperative is accepting resumes for the position of Manager of Quantitative Analytics.  This position is in Deseret’s corporate offices in South Jordan, Utah (suburb of Salt Lake City) and will require occasional travel to offsite meetings.  

Duties include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Responsible for understanding, managing, and settling complex contracts including scheduling service agreements, wholesale power contracts, transmission service agreements, etc.
  • Responsible for understanding settlement implications of Open Access Transmission Tariffs, FERC filings, business practices, rate cases and other third-party filings. 
  • Responsible for acquiring, reviewing, and validating large amounts of data in databases and/or spreadsheets.  This includes data related to meters, schedules, forecasts, pricing, transmission, and other matters.
  • Must have a solid understanding of Deseret’s member systems and how the designs of these systems affect all related settlements.   
  • Prepare Member, EIM and other settlements from 5-minute, 15-minute and/or hourly data and respond to customers questions related to invoice calculations or data.  
  • Analyze third-party invoices related to power purchases, transmission, reserves, energy imbalance and other ancillary service expenses for accuracy.
  • Coordinate with numerous entities and departments, none of which are direct reports, to correct and address issues related to data, invoice calculations, payments, and other matters in real-time and at time of settlement.
  • Provide data to management, accounting, metering, and other departments for a variety of purposes including board presentations, FERC filings, accounting closes, transmission studies, equipment troubleshooting, etc.
  • Prepare cost of service studies, FERC filings and testimony, comments on business practices and other analysis or documents.  
  • Develop an understanding of assigned NERC/WECC compliance standards including attending WECC meetings, ensure compliance, train others, and prepare required evidence of compliance.
  • Provide audit support to accounting for revenue and purchase power.
  • Improve processes (internal and external to Deseret) to gain better accuracy, transparency, and timeliness of information for both invoicing and the underlying data.
  • Prepare and maintain Deseret’s short, medium, and long-term load forecasts.
  • Assist in Deseret’s annual budgeting process.
  • Monitor regional regulatory and market developments.
  • Represent Deseret’s interests in industry stakeholder processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished professional preferably with an Accounting, Finance, Economics and/or Statistics, advanced degree with seven (7) years of accounting, economics and/or statistics experience, with at least five (5) years in an electric utility. 

Must have a thorough working knowledge of accounting, finance, statistics, structured computer programming, and database design and have professional experience using statistical, simulation, and high-level language software and office software.  Must have solid SQL and Excel skills.

Must have ability to meet deadlines under pressure with strong verbal and written communication skills.
