  • Provide Grid OPS support to ensure the reliable operation of NorthWestern Energy’s Balancing Authority, Transmission System, and CAISO EIM Operations 
  • Assist the Director of Grid Real-time and SCADA OPS in developing budgets for the Grid Operations Department
  • Interpreting and applying the collective bargaining agreement, and monitoring the overall activities of the Transmission Operator activities
  • Analyze data for necessary operations and other parties controlling the system to meet customer and company expectations and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Performs administrative functions to support the real-time operations group, but provide technical support and share the responsibility of maintaining the business processes that support the Grid Operations
  • Coach employees to ensure superior performance
  • Lead employee staff meetings to track progress and report monthly the department status to management
  • Review employee work performance, provides employee feedback, including annual reviews and value assessments to support employee compensation process
  • Schedules crews and make individual assignments for the Transmission Operators and EIM Operators
  • Utilize SAP for goods receipt, project management, and time entry accuracy and approval
  • Assist with the Development, implementation, and maintenance for all necessary training programs for NERC Certified Transmission Operators and EIM Operators.
  • Assist with preparation and update NERC, WECC, and FERC Compliance Evidence 
  • Participate in the coordination of NorthWestern Energy’s Safety Program and monitor Transmission Operator and EIM Operator activities to verify prudent operating and safety procedure adherence
  • Oversee the use of equipment and outage coordination on the Electric Transmission System
  • Research solutions for issues with Grid Operations applications and investigate new technologies
  • Develop project plans, manage project team activities, and deliver projects and assignments on time and budget
  • Collaborates with other areas as necessary to meet organization objectives
  • Maintains an appropriate level of confidentiality and security
  • Report significant operational issues to senior management
  • Other duties as assigned by management

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or  related field or equivalent experience
  • Must attain NERC certification within one year (required)
  • Effective supervisory experience with strong leadership skills to lead and develop a department and department staff members
  • Effective administrative and leadership skills are required as well as excellent oral, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Prior experience in management or supervisory positions preferred
  • Knowledge of the functions, operation and mission of the department
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment;
    • Programming experience desired
  • Evidence of the ability to practice a high level of confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational management skills
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of engineering and utility operations of electric and natural gas transmission operation systems
  • Perform and handle high-stress situations while making decisions quickly and accurately    
  • Labor relations experience is advantageous
  • The ability to supervise and direct the activities of several functions and direct reports, coordinate diverse activities, delegate responsibilities efficiently, and promote and maintain a positive work environment 
  • A proven track record as a change agent with skills and experience for innovation and implementation of new programs and procedures is essential 
  • Knowledge and understanding of utility regulation codes (NERC, FERC, WECC, EIM, SCADA, etc.)
  • Must have good attention to detail
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to consolidate information and ideas from various sources to solve problems and produce specific results
