Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC) is seeking a professional engineer with experience working in an electrical utility system. The Reliability & System Engineering Manager directs all distribution system design activities; oversees planning and operation of GIS, Vegetation Management, Construction Contract Management, Materials Management, and System Reliability Improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manages the electric distribution design for new services and construction work system improvement projects. Oversees the development of line design and staking standards to meet National Electric Safety Code and Rural Utilities Service requirements.

Responds to customer complaints, requests and questions regarding terms and conditions of service, retail rates, vegetation management, and the procurement of rights-of-way.

Manages the pole inspection and right-of-way maintenance programs.

Manages the inspection of work orders for new construction and system improvement.

Manages the negotiation and oversight of pole attachment and joint use contracts.

Oversees the field engineering, new service, vegetation management, mapping, and materials management functions.

Develop, implement, maintain and manage a corporate reliability improvement plan.

Manages the accurate recording of electric facilities and data within the GIS.

Manages the procurement and inventory of distribution and transmission equipment and materials.

Manages the contracting of transmission and distribution construction, maintenance, and system improvement, pole inspection, and right-of-way maintenance crews according to RUS contracting requirements and engineering/operations standards

Miscellaneous duties including participation in industry and trade groups, training activities, strategic planning, staff and administrative functions, and giving presentations to the Board of Directors and community groups.


  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Professional Engineer Certification preferred
  3. 10 + years experience in electrical utility system design, mapping, materials and operation.
  4. Troubleshooting experience
  5. Public Speaking experience
  6. Supervisory experience
  7. Technical Writing experience
  8. Financial Analysis experience
