The Marquette Board of Light and Power (MBLP), a municipal electric provider in Marquette, Michigan, is seeking a highly skilled individual to lead its Distribution Department as Director of Distribution.
Candidates for this position will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a four-year degree in electronic technology or related discipline from an accredited university. Demonstrated progressive management experience managing a Distribution Department is required. Other utility experience in generation, finance, planning, and/or AMI metering is a plus.
This exempt position requires a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in the direction, planning, construction, and reliability of an electric distribution system. The successful candidate will be responsible for compliance of environmental, general, safety, and any other rules, regulations and legalities associated with the safe operation and maintenance of an electric utility distribution system. Must have demonstrated experience in supervision as the team leader to oversee the utility’s Manager of Distribution and the Manager of Field Engineering who are responsible for the day-to-day department operations including the planning, engineering, design and development of specifications for the construction, repair and or modification of existing or future Distribution facilities. Responsible for overseeing and developing the department budget and ensuring that projects are completed on time and in accordance with the budget.
This position is also part of the senior staff management team that reports to the Executive Director and will be involved in long-range planning for the Distribution Department and utility-wide along with participating in special utility-wide projects. The successful candidate must exercise good judgment in dealing with the employees, Staff, the publicly-elected Board, and contractors/vendors. Applicant should be analytical, resourceful, and possess outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Will be required to respond to system trouble and work additional hours as may be required by operational conditions.
