NEWS: President Donald Trump signed his “One Big Beautiful Bill” into law

President Donald Trump signed his “One Big Beautiful Bill” into law on Friday after the legislation passed a close House vote. Here’s how carve-outs and compromises shaped the final budget bill:

  • Emerging technologies kept their heads above water. Following pressure from Energy Secretary Chris Wright (the former CEO of Liberty Energy, which is invested in enhanced geothermal developer Fervo Energy), geothermal skirted cuts. And behind-the-scenes negotiations by Republican Senators Susan Collins and Thom Tillis saved hydrogen tax credits.

  • But renewables and homeowners weren’t so lucky. Solar and wind projects must come online by 2027 or break ground by next July to remain eligible for production and investment tax credits. And EVs and residential solar are both likely to get more expensive.

Here’s how states are already responding to the bill ➡️

  • Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced increased energy assistance benefits for eligible households this summer in light of what Moore called “dangerous, heartless legislation.”

  • According to The Maine Monitor, two large solar projects in the state were put on hold in anticipation of the bill’s passage—just days after Central Maine Power’s second rate hike in two years.
