FERC chairman Mark Christie has called for more dispatchable assets and demand response after last week’s widespread heat wave pushed grid operators “close to the edge.” (Utility Dive)
Things are heating up: PJM recorded its highest system demand since 2011 as extreme heat stressed the grid and required the operator to use nearly 4,000 MW of demand response to reduce its load.
Christie also noted that the “US may need to require utilities and other load-serving entities to meet mandatory reserve power supply targets” given how close some ISOs came to running out of resources last week.
