Amazon has filed a complaint accusing PacifiCorp of failing to deliver power for new Oregon data centers. (KGW)
The tech giant claims the Berkshire-owned utility breached legal and contractual obligations by delaying or denying power connections for upcoming facilities, allegedly to “extract payments” not required under existing agreements. Amazon is asking the state’s PUC to either compel PacifiCorp to serve the sites, or remove them from its exclusive service territory.
Between the lines: The dispute comes as PacifiCorp faces financial strain from ongoing wildfire lawsuits in Oregon. The utility warned in a recent SEC filing that mounting damages and bonding requirements could threaten its ability to pay suppliers, maintain infrastructure, and connect new customers.
