AI could drive a tenfold surge in data center power demand by 2030, according to a new report from risk firm DNV. (Axios)
The firm projects that by 2040, North American data centers —led by the US—will consume 16% of regional electricity, with 12% of that tied to AI workloads.
Even so, DNV says AI’s global energy share will likely stay below 3%, far less than demand from EV charging or building cooling.
