Investing in the Grid for Reliability and Resilience - Letter From The Community Leader

Letter from the Community Leader:

Investing in the Grid can provide reliability and resilience to a society becoming more dependent upon the grid than ever before.  And, with the recent Infastrastrure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), how we go about investing in our Grid has become one of the most talked about subjects in the industry.  Our Grid requires upkeep, upgrades, expansion, security, and maintenance.

This brings us to our March/April Special Issue Edition, Investing in the Grid for Reliability and Resilience. Over the last month, we’ve gathered the insights and expertise of your colleagues and peers as it relates to this Special Issue.  Thanks to these shared insights, Investing in the Grid for Reliability & Resilience Special Issue reveals how industry professionals are:

  • Prioritizing investments and breathing life into an aging infrastructure.  Most of the nation’s transmission and distribution assets are near the end of their lifespans, but with a new wave of investments, industry leaders are reducing service interruptions and improving the efficacy of new technologies.
  • Taking a new approach to the problem, grid professionals are learning from the examples of others.  Innovators are reviewing the long-term benefits of a system-wide transformation. Gone are the days of patchwork. It’s time to re-think how we manage distribution.
  • Implementing new technologies, real-time data is already getting results.  Smart meters, digital modeling, and advanced sensors will allow operators to better predict, identify, and resolve vulnerabilities.
  • Securing our infrastructure from hackers and vandalism is vital for IoT.  As grid technology advances and relies more heavily on digital technology , the need to protect data, distribution, and operations is magnified.
  • Navigating recent legislation to promote grid modernization, security, and transparency requires stamina and agility.  Industry leaders are keeping pace with lawmakers and state officials who are expediting change.

This Special Issue Edition will keep you informed about lessons learned, peer perspectives, and what's next for grid operations, in an ever-changing environment. Get expert insights submitted by Energy Central Community Members and top industry professionals.
