The feasibility of a future where energy is produced continuously from space has taken several steps forward in the last year. First, we had the validation of a Caltech experiment that beamed energy from a satellite to Earth. And now we have a paper published that shows lightweight cadmium-telluride solar cells can be used in space to generate that energy. Whether the solar arrays are huge and located in geostationary space, or deployed in a constellation of smaller solar satellites, the technology is looking very promising.Â
