Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro says utility companies make “billions of dollars every year” while increasing ratepayer costs “with too little public accountability or transparency.” He wants that to change. (WHYY)
In a budget address last week, Shapiro demanded the PUC "examine every single line of every single bill to ensure each customer dollar is being well spent."
His plan calls for a new "utility affordability watchdog," the elimination of punitive fees, and strict legislative benchmarks to cap how much profit a monopoly can actually extract from ratepayers.
