NEWS: NextEra eyes nuclear power expansion as data center pipeline grows

NextEra Energy announced it’s in advanced talks to supply an additional 9 GW of nuclear energy to tech giants. (Reuters)

  • Beyond the recently announced restart of its Duane Arnold plant to serve Google data centers, NextEra stated it can add 6 GW of capacity at its existing nuclear sites and is actively evaluating "greenfield" (brand new) locations for advanced reactors.

  • Big demand from data centers—including 20 GW of data center interest in Florida alone—drove NextEra to a Q4 earnings beat with a renewable energy backlog at a record 30 GW.
