NextEra Energy announced it’s in advanced talks to supply an additional 9 GW of nuclear energy to tech giants. (Reuters)
Beyond the recently announced restart of its Duane Arnold plant to serve Google data centers, NextEra stated it can add 6 GW of capacity at its existing nuclear sites and is actively evaluating "greenfield" (brand new) locations for advanced reactors.
Big demand from data centers—including 20 GW of data center interest in Florida alone—drove NextEra to a Q4 earnings beat with a renewable energy backlog at a record 30 GW.
