NEWS: FirstEnergy agrees to pay $275M to resolve Ohio bribery probe

FirstEnergy agreed to pay $275M in restitution to finally close the book on the HB 6 bribery scandal, with the money going directly back to the customers it originally defrauded. (Politico)

  • The deal resolves four separate investigations into the corruption scheme where the company funneled millions to lawmakers in exchange for a nuclear bailout.

  • While the bulk of the cash will appear as direct bill credits, $20M has been ring-fenced specifically for helping low-income families weatherize their homes and pay overdue electric bills.
