Whisker Labs (a company that measures and tracks electrical grids) says its sensors show unusually high levels of Total Harmonic Distortion (higher THD = less energy efficiency and more damage to appliances and devices) in ComEd territory. (CBS News)
The findings: 40% of homes in the surveyed area had distorted power, Whisker Labs said. That could mean wasted electricity and hundreds of extra dollars per year for customers.
ComEd pushed back, saying 1) the metrics aren’t industry-standard or substantiated and 2) Illinois has some of the lowest average electricity bills in the Midwest.
