Today, around 5:45 p.m., an emergency alert hit millions of Californians' cellphones: “Conserve energy now to protect public health and safety.” Pretty serious and somewhat sad.
The CAISO has a lot of information on their website https://lnkd.in/e7ihh4aB and a very nice app. The app will show you the available supply and demand daily.
Will more transmission solve this supply problem on a record hot days in California and the West? No….we need more reliable and diverse sources of generation.
It’s an exciting time to be an engineer solving this resource challenge while we make electricity cleaner, more reliable and resilient, and keep it affordable. And, affordability is defined as the Total Cost of Ownership(TCO) over the life of the generation or T&D asset.

The utility said the California Independent System Operator hasn't called for rolling blackouts but officials were warning customers to prepare as a precaution.
