BELIEVE IT OR NOT

- To produce 1Kg. of Hydrogen by electrolysis, it consumes 48.8 kWh of Renewable electricity.

- This 1Kg. of Hydrogen produces just 15 kWh.

- This means Hydrogen energy conversion efficiency is 31%

- Does it make sense?

Dr. Amal, ΔG of O + H2 → H2O is 118 MJ/kg = 32.78 kWh.  How are you arriving at your figure?

It is energy-wise.

1Kg of hydrogen is equal to 1 gallon of gasoline. In turn, 1 gallon of gasoline produces 15KWh.

Many will quibble about that 31% conversion efficiency. A more widely accepted figure is currently 40%, while proponents hold out for the feasibility of 50% in the future. Regardless of that, I think the answer to your question has to be "no, it doesn't make sense". Not if there are other, more economically efficient solutions for long term energy storage.

The problem is that at present, no more economically efficient solutions are recognized. They likely do exist, and people are working on them. But there are a lot of complex tradeoffs, and nobody really knows where the ball is going to drop.

Thank s for your answer. Yes, there are a lot of complex tradeoffs, but I am quite sure that the logical choices must dominate. Let us wait and see.
