Since the beginning of the industry, utilities have mainly operated with one commodity in mind: energy. That energy may have varied in fuel type and delivery method, but the end goal was the same. These days, though, a new asset is upending everything the energy leaders once new, and that's data.

And among the most critical data types being collected and put to use by innovative and digitized energy providers is location, thanks to the rapidly advancing technology behind geographic information systems (GIS) and other types of geospatial data.

In recognition of the increasing importance behind this area of the utility industry, Energy Central is working in partnership with our content partner Esri to help leading-edge power providers share their use cases and best practices while providing an opportunity for those organizations trying to play catch up to ask questions and learn.

So, if you have insights to share about GIS or you have questions about how you should be integrating geospatial technology, we're asking for you to contribute! Starting today, we are asking the community to share their GIS stories, questions, insights, challenges and more either by posting a note in the comments section below or by creating your own post

Our goal is to have our community members share your tips, programs that you have implemented, and/or any stories that you may have around promoting GIS as a critical part of the utility toolbox.

Your stories, whether it is a note below in the comments or as your own postwill be highlighted in our upcoming Intelligent Utility Network Newsletter scheduled to deploy on Wednesday, October 13th.  So, don't miss out-- share now!  And be sure to use the topic tag GIS & Geospatial.

*Your stories need to be posted by Tuesday, October 12th in order to be included in the newsletter.

And a special thanks to our Esri for supporting our upcoming Newsletter edition and topic of discussion around utility GIS topics.

The Energy Central Power Industry Network is based on one core idea - power industry professionals helping each other and advancing the industry by sharing and learning from each other.

If you have an experience or insight to share or have learned something from a conference or seminar, your peers and colleagues on Energy Central want to hear about it. It's also easy to share a link to an article you've liked or an industry resource that you think would be helpful.
