Nepra notifies Rs1.06 per unit rise in power tariff

A Rs1.06 hike in electricity price, notified by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) in December, will come into effect this month.
According to media, the Central Power Purchasing Agency requested an increase of Rs0.52 per unit as fuel charge adjustment charges for the months of October and November in 2020.
After a public hearing in December 2020, Nepra approved an increase of Rs1.6 per unit. The hike comes into effect in January bills and applies to consumers of all power distribution companies (DISCOs) except Line Life customers.
The fuel price adjustment charges, however, do not apply to electricity consumers. Sources said the increase would impose an additional burden of Rs 8.40 billion on consumers.
