Idaho wind farm could be among the worlds largest wind energy plants

Source:
Energy Monitor Worldwide

A massive wind farm, Idahos largest, could break ground in the Magic Valley in 2022.

The final size and cost for the Lava Ridge Wind Project isnt yet known, but the wind farm could be up to 1,000 megawatts with a price tag in the $1 billion range. At 1,000 MW and with hundreds of turbines, the wind farm wouldnt just be Idahos largest, it would be among the biggest in the world.

Were in the early stages of this, Magic Valley Energy Project Manager Luke Papez said. (The specifics are) going to get worked out in the siting process.

This is an amazing capacity addition to a small market.  Idaho already generates 75% of their power from renewable energy, the balance from natural gas.  Assuming a 40 % capacity factor - the plant alone would add 20% to energy generation in Idaho - bringing Idaho close to 100% renewable generation.  Of course this will be distributed throughout the west, but a massive addition to a state with small demand.  Idaho already has one of the lowest carbon loading per KWH of generation.
