Kyiv, Mar 29 (EFE).- The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog Rafael Grossi on Wednesday began a visit to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, a spokesman told Efe.

Grossi has been in Ukraine since the beginning of this week to discuss the security situation at Europe's biggest nuclear power plant, which is currently relying on just one high-voltage line to supply it with power from the grid.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly warned of the risks posed by the conflict to the plant.

Russian president Vladimir Putin said earlier on in the day that he was not planning to be in contact with Grossi.

The head of the watchdog will instead coordinate with representatives of Rosatom, the Russian state atomic energy that has controlled the occupied plant since last year.

Ukraine and Russia have both accused each other of jeapardizing the safety of the Zaporizhzhia plant.EFE
