Multiple issues are challenging the ambitious capacity addition target in the wind energy sector, set by Government of India. The Government has set a renewable energy target of 175 gigawatt by 2022 consisting of 60 gigawatt of onshore wind energy. About 39 gigawatt of wind capacity was installed, accounting for 10.25 percent of the power mix, as of Feb 2021. The 2022 targets set by Government of India may be missed, because of constraints related to land allocation, grid availability, recurring financial instability of Discoms, tender design and sanctity of
power purchase agreement, says Global Wind Report 2021 of Global Wind Energy Council.
