Manuel Atanacio, has a long career in the electric power industry spanning more than 35 years of experience. Manuel worked for twelve (12) years in operational functions of the Electric Power Authority of Puerto Rico (AEE/PREPA now LUMA Energy), a vertically integrated electricity company in the field of electrical systems operations and network management of transmission systems, power generation, distribution systems, energy management systems and SCADA systems. Manuel retired from the AEE as Superintendent, Electric System Operations and joined KEMA Consulting (now DNV/GL) in 1997. Manuel assisted numerous national and international clients for fourteen (14) years in Energy Systems consulting projects for SCADA/EMS Control Systems and Market Operations Systems. Manuel formed an integral part of the consulting teams and programs that supported the transformation of the New York Power Pool into the New York ISO (1998-1999), the startup of the Midcontinent ISO (1999-2000) and the beginning of the zonal and nodal markets of the ERCOT ISO (2000 to 2001 and 2006 to 2009). He then worked as Vice President of Systems Control and Engineering Consulting for UISOL / Alstom Grid until its acquisition by GE and as Executive Advisor of Business Integration for Quanta Technology LLC. Manuel joined ESTA International April 2017. He was a Power System Operations advisor to the Independent Market Monitor in Mexico and leads or supports other ESTA consulting projects both for domestic and international consulting projects related to Operations Technology replacement strategy, Change Management, and Electric Wholesale Markets. Manuel obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico in 1985 and his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Rollins College in 2007.
