Retired from position as head of Electrical Sector at Blattner Energy Avon, MN a position I was recruited to develop and head as they transitioned from a 100 year civil contractor to now largest US wind solar EPC contractor with 42.5% of the 2018 grid connected wind and solar installation. j
Prior to Blattner retired from Xcel Energy Principal Engineer position which in 1998 through 2001 included task force leader for the NSP/Xcel wind integration task force on the Minnesota Buffalo Ridge wind project. It was then the largest US wind project and out of necessity the task force invented low voltage ride through (LVRT) for wind turbines and other innovations for the wind industry.
1989 - 1998 Head of Transmission Planning department for 10 years and also a peer representative on the Mid-continent Area Power Pool (MAPP) which proceeded MISO.
Rate and regulatory position responsible for rate design and regulatory approval. Project manager and engineer for radio load management implementation. Regulatory work included pioneer work for energy storage and interruptible rates and the preparing and support of the 1977 Otter Tail Power FERC open access transmission wheeling rate which was pivotal even for today's renewable generation.
Working on methods for dynamic balance of renewable wind / solar with thermal storage to reduce tons CO2 and also stabilize transmission grid.
