Title: Summer Grounds Keeper
Position Type: Contract
Location: Lowell, MA & Lawrence, MA
Reports to: Site Supervisor
Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:
The Summer Seasonal Helper performs duties to keep the canals and stations grounds clear of trash and debris and maintain the landscaping by direction of the Site Supervisor. The Summer Grounds Keeper will perform work during the 2023 summer season (April - September) working at the Lowell and Lawrence hydroelectric sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Cleaning up trash along the banks of the canals and in the canal waterways.
  • Maintain the grass along the canal embankments.
  • Keep the canal walls clear of woody growth that can compromise the canal walls integrity.
  • Help with any public tours.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the station grounds and supporting structures.
  • Operate equipment necessary to maintain the grounds.

Job Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Average computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work outside rain or shine.
  • Ability to remain on your feet all day and frequently climb ladders and navigate uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to work around water.

Physical Requirements:
  • Working in varied outdoor environments such as all-weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces.
  • The frequent use of protective equipment may be required. Work with hazardous materials may also be required.
  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, lifting, and carrying up to 100 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • All candidates will participate in the post-offer drug screening.

Education / Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old (to operate mechanical equipment).
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
