Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Engineering Thermal Fluid Systems Methods Analysis group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a RELAP5 Analyst and Developer
Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop analytical models for capturing physics and/or phenomenon
  • Lead code development to meet needs identified by advanced reactor concepts/systems
  • Contribute to improvements/advances in code architecture
  • Conduct RELAP5-3D development activities related to the identification and correction of code errors and the implementation of new models
  • Support analyses to evaluate reactor system performance during normal and off-normal conditions
  • Support RELAP5-3D validation studies to determine code applicability and accuracy
  • Support safety analyses and reviews for INL reactors (e.g., ATR and TREAT)
  • Co-Lead development of RELAP5-3D user training material
  • Support review and update of RELAP5-3D software quality assurance documentation
  • Provide technical check of RELAP5-3D reports documenting model development, analyses, and validation studies
  • Serve as a RELAP5-3D Technical Expert for other INL organizations/projects
  • Requires nuclear engineering application and knowledge to apply knowledge of reactor systems, nuclear safety requirements, the RELAP5-3D computer code, thermal-hydraulic phenomena related to heat transfer, fluid flow, and reactor kinetics
Minimum Requirements:
PR0300: Master's degree and 3 years relevant experience OR PhD and 2 years relevant experience. Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
PR0400: Master's degree and 6 years relevant experience OR PhD and 4 years relevant experience. Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
  • Software development coursework and/or working experience
Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics and proficient in using Linux, FORTRAN, Python, and C.
  • Previous working experience with RELAP5 is highly desirable........

  • Salary Grade: 220,($104,688 - $172,668)/ 230,($118,020 - $200,808)
