Responsible for substantive employment and labor law services, including case management of a number of large and small legal matters and/or projects and research, in support of and under direction of attorneys in Xcel Energy Legal Services. Position will involve interaction with all areas of Xcel Energy. Independently works with outside counsel as required. Regularly represents Legal Services through direct contact with clients (in meetings and through internal correspondence).

Essential Responsibilities


  • Responds to and prepares discovery requests and responses; issues legal holds, collects, compiles and manages document production and preservation.
  • Coordinates and attends depositions, administrative hearings and trials as required.
  • Serves as member of the Service of Process team to manage and respond to subpoenas.
  • Initiates, drafts, manages and/or interprets complex correspondence, pleadings, and other documents; prepares summaries of documents as requested for accuracy and identifying issues for review and decision by attorney.
  • Manages the intake of legal research requests and conducts, analyzes and reports the search results from digests, practice manuals and other sources.




  • Bachelor's degree and/or Paralegal Certificate
  • 5 years of practice as a paralegal in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent experience
  • Excellent organizational, communication (both written and verbal)
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple large tasks simultaneously from and prioritize workload with a strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, and WestLaw/Nexis-Lexis




  • Strong preference will be given to applicants with litigation and/or employment and labor law experience.
  • Experience with issuing and managing legal holds
  • Experience with e-Discovery
  • Experience in a heavily regulated industry, such as regulated utility or energy provider.
