Job Summary and Essential Functions

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO's Operations department invites applications for a full-time Reliability Engineer.

The Reliability Engineer will exercise oversight responsibility for the NYISO's Reliability Compliance Program. This will include activities to ensure NYISO has sufficient accurate information to maintain power system reliability in compliance with established and emerging reliability standards and business practices established by NERC/NPCC/NYSRC/NAESB through an established compliance framework. This individual will c reate and use engineering-based systems and GRC tools to monitor industry reliability standards and recommend internal procedures and policies to monitor function's effectiveness and compliance. The Reliability Engineer will also p rovide analysis and technical expertise on reliability and business compliance, including risk assessment and controls documentation. The Reliability Engineer will also represent department and participate in compliance specialization teams including commenting on reliability standards development and compliance reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree (MS) strongly preferred.
  • Seven years of related experience in transmission planning, operations engineering; power systems training.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Bulk Power Systems Operations and Planning concepts desired; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Please note that this position will be filled at the level (i.e., Associate Engineer, Engineer, or Senior Engineer) appropriate with the candidate's experience and qualifications.
