Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Thermal Fluid Systems Methods and Analysis group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a RELAP5 Analyst and Developer.
Our team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Research Education Campus with every other Friday off!
The position involves thermal-hydraulic analysis of reactor systems using the RELAP5-3D system code. Specific requirements of the position include: Develop RELAP5 thermal-hydraulics input models of reactors and experiment systems, Conduct analyses to evaluate reactor system performance during normal and off-normal conditions, Conduct RELAP5-3D development activities related to the identification and correction of code errors and the implementation of new models, Conduct RELAP5-3D validation studies to determine code applicability and accuracy, Support experiments to generate RELAP5-3D validation data, Conduct safety analyses and reviews for INL reactors (e.g., ATR and TREAT), Contribute to RELAP5-3D training material, Support review and update of RELAP5-3D software quality assurance documentation Prepare reports documenting model development, analyses, and validation studies, and Serve as a RELAP5-3D Technical Expert for other INL organizations/projects. Requires nuclear engineering application and knowledge to apply knowledge of reactor systems, nuclear safety requirements, the RELAP5-3D computer code, thermal-hydraulic phenomena related to heat transfer, fluid flow, and reactor kinetics.
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree
- Software development coursework and/or working experience
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
- Working knowledge of nuclear reactor thermalhydraulics and proficient in using Linux, FORTRAN, Python, and C
- Previous working experience with RELAP5 is highly desirable
- Salary Grade 200 ($79,140 - $130,572)
