SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, ensures that PNM's projected electric customer load demand is met, around-the-clock, in the most economic and efficient manner while adhering to operating system constraints and industry or regulatory guidelines, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation Operating Standards and other regional standards
- Responds to generation disturbances within established regulatory, industry, reserve sharing groups, and company standards to assure a continuous supply of electricity to customers
- Responds to generation outages by urgently procuring alternative economic resources.
- Implements real-time actions, up to and including shedding firm load, to insure stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System
- Procures economical spinning, operating and ready, system reserve requirements.
- Provides power schedule interchange information to the System Operator for use in Control Area administration.
- Negotiates product, price, quantity, terms, etc., under available agreements to buy, sell, or swap wholesale power with regional, national utilities, and other power marketing entities.
- Supports the Wholesale Power Marketing Team by developing leads to expand pre-scheduling and intermediate and long-term market opportunities.
- Establishes and maintains positive business relationships with counterparts at regional or national utilities and marketer organizations.
- Establishes and maintains tracking mechanisms to properly confirm and document billings, etc.
- Resolves interchange scheduling and pricing disputes with utility and power marketing entity counterparts.
- Administers PNM's wholesale power contracts.
- Secures transmission paths as necessary for power purchase and sale activities.
- In depth understanding of the competitive wholesale electricity marketplace, including the effects from market dynamics such as delivery limitations, regional supply/demand, daily/seasonal diversities, reliability aspects, fuel considerations, etc.
- Analytical skills to properly assess complex technical and economic variables and the capability to make fast and accurate decisions based on the conclusions reached.
- Ability to perform under considerable stress induced by a highly competitive environment, impending deadlines, emergency situations and an adjustable work schedule.
- Working knowledge of the interconnected bulk power generation and transmission network and the operational aspects of that network.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Marketing, Business, Finance, Economics or Engineering with two to five years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
- Must have and maintain the NERC System Operator Certification and the required continuing education hours. Failure to obtain/maintain NERC certification could result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, in accordance with the PNMR's Positive Discipline policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of MS Access database software, MS Excel spreadsheet software and MS Word Processing software.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

SUMMARY:
Ensures that PNM's projected electric customer load demand is met, around-the-clock, in the most economic and efficient manner while adhering to operating system constraints and industry or regulatory guidelines. Maximizes OPN revenues through administration of PNM's wholesale power agreements with third parties and the aggressive marketing of wholesale power products and services in the real-time marketplace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements real-time actions, up to and including shedding firm load, to insure stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation Operating Standards and other regional standards
- Projects the total hourly customer demand, including daily system peak
- Procures economic, adequate, reliable resources to serve customer demand
- Responds to generation outages by urgently procuring alternative economic resources
- Procures economical spinning, operating and ready, system reserve requirements
