Title: Project Cost Engineer

Position Type: Contract

Location: Columbus, OH

Reports to: Sr. Project Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The Project Cost Engineer provides project support for the Combined Heat Power (CHP) Project which will principally involve the monitoring and controlling project costs. Located in Columbus, OH, the Project Cost Engineer will utilize judgement and experience in the application of scientific principles and techniques for validation of contractor invoice applications, change order estimates, and planning and scheduling issues as related to costs and claims of costs. The Project Cost Engineer will also work on the review of the contractor's fiscal deliverables for determination of acceptability of engineering works, of erection works and of any subcontracting/procurement works with contract adherence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Sr. Project Manager in all necessary aspects regarding the financial controlling, reporting, projecting, and forecasting of the project costs.
  • Provide comprehensive support to Project Manager to keep costs within planned acceptable limits.
  • Update changes to revenue, budget, and cost baseline of the project.
  • Provide project cost and expense reporting for the execution process, identify, and propose mitigation of risks, and assist in the development of strategic techniques to reduce financial loss for the project.
  • Provide support in accounting processes, month-end reporting, and project accounting accruals.
  • Provide support in claim management and documentation including variation management and reporting and contract entitlements.
  • Assist with the review of Contractor's invoices and all supporting documentation as provided by Subcontractor.
  • Effectively apply methodology and enforce project and company standards.
  • Ensure project financial documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Attend regular status meetings with project team.
  • Effectively communicate relevant project information to superiors.
  • Review and approve project related commercial (financial) matters submitted by the contractor.
  • Assist in monitoring and verifying contractor's work progress for the purpose of progress payments.
  • Provide correspondence input for instructions to ensure strict adherence to general and project requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Identify any supervisory responsibilities, direct reports if any, and level of supervision associated with the role.
  • Assist in the management of budgets which includes time, materials, labor costs and other factors.

Job Requirements:
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Ability to calculate and manage financial aspects, statistics, with proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing, entering, and maintaining financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Must be knowledgeable in construction/engineering scheduling and execution processes.
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills in a matrix and multi-cultural environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.) may be required.

Education / Experience:
  • BS in Engineering or Physics from 4-year college or university; or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience including 4 years (minimum) of proven working experience as Project Controller, Accounts Receivable Manager or Accountant (industrial industries).

OR
  • BS degree in accounting from 4-year college or university; or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience including 4 years (minimum) of proven working experience as project engineer in industrial, power, or chemical industries.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project experience for high value projects.
  • Must have Engineering/Construction exposure in multiple disciplines.
