The Power and Energy Systems Department within the Energy and Environment Science & Technology (EES&T) Directorate at Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with experience in power systems engineering. Candidates for this position should have expertise in power market modeling, energy policy, grid planning, transactive energy, technoeconomic analysis, and/or related concepts. The successful candidate will apply this expertise at INL to support understanding of grid planning and operations for diverse technologies, including hydropower, wind, solar, nuclear, and integrated energy systems. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ideation, planning, coordination, implementation, and dissemination of projects within the above outlined domains. This person will prepare and contribute to technical reports, publications, and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors.
The candidate is also expected to contribute to the team's culture, which is characterized by strong trust, mutual respect, and support. Demonstrated ability to decompose complex research questions into tractable components and deliver high quality products are required; experience with proposal writing is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are also required.
EES&T's role and mission is to develop and advance clean, smart, and secure energy systems essential to national security, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability. It embodies science and engineering functions that contribute enabling technologies for today's national energy portfolio. It also augments the country's technical ability to collaborate on and overcome critical energy and water challenges that already impact tomorrow's energy choices. This position supports and integrates actions, activities, projects, & initiatives of the EES&T Directorate's Integrated Mission Plan and other INL research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) efforts.
- PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years
- PhD degree in engineering field with relevant research topic.
- The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background and solid understanding of power markets, rate design, utility decision making, and techno-economic concepts.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is highly desired.
