Planning Engineer, Interconnection Studies
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO's Interconnection Studies department invites applications for a full-time Planning Engineer.
The Planning Engineer will coordinate, perform and review technical studies related to the interconnection of proposed new generation, transmission, and load facilities to the New York State transmission system (i.e., interconnection projects) ; review proposed project facilities, including the conceptual design for interconnection of the project to the NYS transmission system, and associated modeling data provided for the project; prepare base cases to be used in interconnection studies; provide technical coordination with others involved in the performance of interconnection studies including the project developers, Transmission Owners, consultants, and others as applicable.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a concentration in power systems preferred
- 3+ years of experience in the areas of power system planning or design, especially planning or design of transmission system facilities preferred
- Experience with computer programs used in transmission planning or interconnection studies such as power flow, short circuit and/or transient stability
- Working knowledge of PTI PSS/E, PTI MUST, PSS/E, ASPEN software tools preferred
- Knowledge of reliability standards and practices related to power system planning and design.
The position will be filled at the level (i.e. Associate Engineer, Engineer, or Senior Engineer) appropriate with experience and qualifications.
