Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Packaging / Transport group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Packaging and Transportation Hazardous Material Shipper! This team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our SMC and Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
Responsibilities Include
  • Direct packaging and shipping activities of Hazardous Material using technical knowledge, training, and expertise.
  • Ensure the implementation of DOT, NRC, DOE, and EPA regulations while shipping hazardous, radioactive, and waste material to and from INL facilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Coordinate all Specific Manufacturing Capability shipments and serve as the liaison between Idaho National Laboratory and the Office of Secure Transportation for all transportation related functions.
  • Prepare and classify all documents to accompany shipments of hazardous, radioactive, and waste materials.
  • Coordinate multiple shipments between INL projects, on-site and off-site locations.
  • Conferring with INL staff, vendors, and customers to coordinate shipping activities that satisfy INL obligations.
  • Serve as the primary shipper for classified and sensitive shipments for INL programs.
  • Represent the P&T organization by working with projects and programs to aid on the application of transportation rules and regulations governing hazardous material shipping requirements.
  • Use the INL Integrated Waste Tracking System (IWTS), DOE's Automated Transportation Logistics and Analysis System (ATLAS), Radcalc, HazTrak and LowTrak systems to process information to identify the appropriate DOT packaging and classify the material to properly prepare shipments for transport with minimal management oversight.
  • Maintain capabilities and qualifications and assist in the development and management of career goals.
  • Perform other work as directed by management.
Minimum Requirements
  • Level 2: Bachelor's degree plus 2 years relevant experience, Master's degree plus 1 year experience, or HS diploma/GED plus 10 years relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Level 3: Bachelor's degree plus 5 years relevant experience, or HS diploma/GED plus 13 years relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Relevant experience includes:
    • Shipping hazardous/non-hazardous goods (characterization, generating documents)
    • Hazardous waste or chemical handling (hazwhopper etc.)
    • Motor carrier (DOT, Fed motor carrier driver, dispatch etc.)
    • General logistics (freight handling, material tracking etc.)
    • Radiological (classifying, radcon tech, medical, nuclear operations.
    • Government experience (military, DOE, structured atmosphere)
Preferred Requirements
  • At least 4 years customer service experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of DOE, DOT, NRC, EPA and ICAO rules and regulations.
  • Ability to attain and maintain a DOT/IATA/ICAO Shipper's Certification

  • Salary Grade 190 ($68,820 - $113,644) / Salary Grade 200 ($79,140 - $130,572)
