Position Description
The Advanced Reactor Group in the Nuclear Science and Technology Division at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Nuclear/Mechanical Thermal-Hydraulic Engineering Postdoctoral Research Associate. In this position, the research associate will apply engineering knowledge and expertise to assist in the design, analysis, and conduct of experiments to develop and establish an experimental test facility.
This postdoctoral researcher will focus on developing scaled thermal hydraulic test facilities. Technical tasks will focus on experimental and computational studies related to water cooled and gas cooled designs. The applicant is expected to be a versatile engineer who has extensive experience in experiment design, data acquisition and processing, and analytics. This position also requires proficiency in finite volume method (FVM)-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) along with proficiency in MATLAB, PYTHON, ABAQUS, FORTRAN, and C++.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Ph.D. in nuclear/mechanical engineering, experience with thermal-hydraulics, computational fluid dynamics, or related disciplines must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years.
- Experience in thermal-hydraulic experiments, from design of the experiment to data-analytics.
- Experience with verification and validation methods of Thermal Hydraulic test facilities and system codes.
- Familiarity with MOOSE framework
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in FVM-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and simulation (e.g., ANSYS CFX, STAR-CCM+, FLUENT, OpenFOAM)
- Experience in the multi-physics modeling and simulation (e.g., COMSOL multi-physics)
- Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English)
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience in delivering high-quality products on schedule
- Publish articles in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present papers at national and international conferences and events.
