Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) Facility Safety Engineering group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Nuclear Safety Analyst! This team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our MFC facility with every Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Support completion of nuclear facility document safety analyses (DSAs) and technical safety requirements (TSRs) updates, revisions, or creation.
  • Establish a rapport and work with support organizations and ensure DSA and TSR projects are completed and submitted to the Department of Energy (DOE) for approval on schedule.
  • Identify DSA commitments and derives TSRs to ensure hazardous and radioactive material releases are prevented or mitigated.
  • Ensure the preparation of DSA and TSR ensuring revisions accurately reflect the facility configuration and establish the controls.
  • Support nuclear facility operation which includes reviews of procedures, operational events, and facility modifications and support DSA and TSR implementation.
  • Implement unreviewed safety question (USQ) process for proposed facility and procedure changes and new information and develops interim operating restriction, develops, and implements USQ resolution plans.
  • Collaborate in establishing objectives, set priorities and advise management of nuclear safety issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective collaboration with plant systems and experiments engineers, facility operations, supporting organization, company Facility Safety Engineering organization, subcontractor personnel, and DOE oversight personnel.
  • Provide support to the Nuclear Safety Program, which include requirements management, identify, and implement improvements to current procedures and processes, perform programmatic assessments, and conduct lab-wide training associated with nuclear safety requirements.
  • Implement discovery USQ process, including potential inadequacies in the documented safety analysis (PISAs).
  • Support implementation of the updated, upgraded, revised, or new DSAs and TSRs for nuclear facilities to ensure that TSRs and DSA commitments are adequately implemented in facility procedures.
  • Establish interface agreements with other organizations, tracking and reporting status, and ensuring projects meet schedule commitments.
  • Conduct facility hazard identification, assessment, and accident analyses and classification.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Level 1: Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Level 2: Bachelor of Science degree plus 2 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree and 1 year of experience.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  • Must obtain and maintain proficiency in the use of analytical tools.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Degree in Physics, Health Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
  • A broad range of analytical methods used in developing safety analyses and risk assessments and knowledge of Department of Energy or of Nuclear Regulatory Commission nuclear safety and unreviewed safety question guides and standards.

  • Salary Grade 200 ($81,288 - $134,100) / 210 ($93,492 - $154,212)
