Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Engineering Advanced Reactor Technology and Design group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Molten Salt Reactor Technology Leader
Our team works a remote 9x80 with every other Friday off!
Responsibilities Include:
INL is seeking to increase its capability to lead and support current and future molten salt reactor (MSR) technology R&D. The position will integrate multidisciplinary expertise in materials science, reactor physics, chemistry, thermal hydraulics, instrumentation, safety adequacy, regulatory processes, waste streams, safeguards, and proliferation resistance. Activities will include supporting development of proliferation resistant fuel cycle technologies that minimize fissile resource requirements.
The focus of the position is on applying technology and systems understanding to buy down risks of commercial MSR technology deployment. Responsibilities will include working across INL and DOE organizations to leverage and develop molten salt reactor technologies and capabilities. The position will support DOE campaigns (including international cooperation activities), NRC activities, as well as existing and future INL reactor technology demonstration activities. The position will require the ability to work well with individuals with a diverse backgrounds and experience levels both within and external to INL.


Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or a related field with 15+ year experience. Experience is desired in the following areas:
  • Molten salt reactor technology
  • Design, modeling, and evaluation of nuclear reactors and fuel cycles
  • Safety adequacy evaluation processes
  • Safeguards and proliferation resistance regulations
  • Commercial and non-power reactor regulations
  • Molten salt reactor waste streams
  • High temperature materials
  • Advanced reactor instrumentation
  • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills (in English)
  • Ability to work directly with sponsoring organizations
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment
The following criteria are desired but not required
  • Experience with international cooperation in reactor safety, safeguards, and proliferation resistance
  • Coordination of work among multi-organizational teams
US citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident status is required.
