Job Summary and Essential Functions

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state. The NYISO's Market Operations department invites applications for a full-time Analyst in our Market Validation group.

The NYISO is looking for a Market Validation Analyst who can multi-task, has good judgment, problem-solving and communication skills, and can work in a team based environment. As a Market Validation Analyst, you will develop expertise in the wholesale electricity markets, including the contributors to market volatility and unusual market results. You will apply this expertise as you evaluate the results of NYISO's Day-Ahead and Real-Time energy, ancillary services, and TCC markets for accuracy. In addition, you will perform validation and analysis support work for NYISO's Coordinated Transaction Scheduling protocol with neighboring ISOs. Specific activities include reviewing market anomalies, researching the factors driving these anomalies, and taking appropriate actions for follow-up. As a Market Validation Analyst, you may also provide subject matter expertise in support of external stakeholder and media inquiries, as well as provide internal and external reporting using advanced analytics and statistical analysis of market results.


  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required. Mathematics, Business, Economics, or Computer Science degree preferred.
  • Three years of related work experience in the areas of data/market analysis, preferably in electricity markets.
  • Experience with user acceptance testing is highly desired; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Strong data analytic capabilities and proficiency working with large data sets.
