Working in our market operations division allows for a unique and dynamic opportunity to be at the forefront of the wholesale electricity markets in Texas. You will gain hands-on experience in market design initiatives and real-time operations of the wholesale market while developing your leadership, engineering, and data analysis skills.
Job Description Responsibilities:
This position will initially help draft the technical and business requirements for Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to participate in the ERCOT markets. Following the initial developmental stage this position will transition into the lead subject matter expert working with interested DERs during the registration and qualification phases as well as performance validation and reporting of these new resources. Some of the other primary responsibilities will include participating in an active role responding to ad hoc requests from stakeholders and presenting at stakeholder meetings, facilitating revisions to the ERCOT protocols and other key documents as well as working with internal staff, ERCOT stakeholders, and other ISOs on Distributed Energy Resource issues. This position will also provide critical backup support for other activities within the Demand Integration Department. It is preferred that candidates have knowledge and experience working with renewable energy resources connected to the distribution system.
Market Operations Engineer 1 & 2 - Demand Integration
- Develops knowledge of the demand response services administered by ERCOT in order to support Market Participant business needs
- Assists in monitoring and analyzing the various demand response services administered by ERCOT
- Acquires the skill and knowledge of ERCOT procedures and business functions related wholesale market and grid operations using power engineering knowledge
- Develops understanding and knowledge of competitive energy markets and trends
- Develops and maintains knowledge of the wholesale market and ERCOT grid operations in order to support Market Participant business needs
- Acquires the skills and knowledge to begin to anticipate and resolve issues within the ERCOT wholesale market and grid operations using power engineering knowledge
- Generates and maintains market reports per requests and protocols
- Assists the management team and senior experts in providing technical assistance to PUCT, industry and Stakeholder groups
- With guidance from senior team members and/or management, assists in addressing Market Participant questions pertaining to the daily market and grid operations activities
- Attends stakeholder, industry, and PUCT meetings under the direction of the ERCOT management team
- Escalates issues to the Supervisor and/or Manager in a timely manner when necessary
- Develops strong working relationships with other internal departments

- Tests and validates changes to the applications used by the department members
Education
- Bachelor's Degree : Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required
- Level 1: No minimum work experience required
- Level 2: Requires minimum 1 year related work experience in excess of degree requirements
Work Location:
- Some job duties must be performed on-site at the Taylor or Austin locations, but the majority of work can be performed remote
- Schedules will be flexible based on business needs
- Some personal preference options may be allowed, Manager will determine if accommodations can be made based on business needs
- May choose to work onsite 100% of the time
