The New England region's deep commitment to decarbonizing its economy within the next few decades has made ISO-NE's work in forecasting electricity demand an exciting, challenging, and innovative career path. The forecast group in System Planning is responsible for predictive modeling and data analytics that span both short-term (up to one week ahead) and long-term (10 years or more) time horizons, and gives rigorous consideration to regional trends in energy efficiency, distributed solar photovoltaics, and electrification of the heating and transportation sectors.

Be part of a dynamic and fast-paced team, developing novel solutions for the region's emerging forecasting challenges that will serve as a cornerstone of the planning and operation of the future grid.

How You Will Make an Impact
  • Perform statistical analysis of large (predominantly time-series) datasets;
  • Develop and refine methodologies and tools used to forecast existing and emerging trends (e.g., customer-sited battery storage) and their impacts on electricity consumption;
  • Research policy and technical developments that are likely to impact region's patterns of electricity consumption;
  • Present complex and technical content to a diverse audiencethrough written reports and presentations;
  • Conduct post-analysis of various forecasts to evaluate forecast accuracy
  • Stay abreast of forecasting developments within the research community
What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in economics, business, statistics or mathematics, engineering, or a related field. Graduate degree is preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience in forecasting, data analytics, or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in coding, algorithm development, and predictive modeling is required
  • A self-motivated, detail-oriented, analytical problem solver
  • Proficiency in at least one advanced programming language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, SAS); familiarity with MATLAB is a plus
  • Passionate and innovative thinker that is able to work independently while making contributions to a team
  • Experience with peer code review, coding standards and version control practices is a plus
