Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Road Grounds Landfill group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as an operations supervisor!
Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our CFA facility with every Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:
  • The supervisor provides leadership and work direction to union represented heavy equipment operators (HEOs) and ensures safe/efficient execution of various tasks in support of mission essential work activities performed by CFA site facility, utilities and site services organizations including Landfill operations, wild land fire mowing, defendable space mowing, wild land fire preparations, excess and property moves, site wide fueling efforts, and other assigned activities.
  • Provide direction, leadership, supervision, and coordination for multi-discipline personnel as they perform preventive and corrective maintenance across the INL.
  • Plan and schedule the work of designated personnel, ensuring adequate staff and the proper distribution of assignments.
  • Understand, own, model, and message Lab values, priorities, and goals and assist in initiatives that further the vision and mission.
  • Participate in leadership opportunities (LOSA, Supervisor's Forum, Leadership Immersion, etc.).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain qualifications for applicable job code.
  • Perform powerful and thorough pre-job briefs to remove all doubt concerning your/INL expectations of all work performed safely.
  • Ensure all assigned employees are trained, qualified, and medically fit to perform work.
  • Routinely provide leadership out in the field observing and interacting with staff during the course of work.
  • Ensure that staff have the necessary resources to successfully complete assigned maintenance.
  • Ensure that assigned personnel are provided the tools and appropriate materials.
  • Participate in development of craft training plans and verify training is maintained and current by supporting the facility training schedule.
  • Establish a work culture that is aligned with INL mission, vision and values. This involves developing mutual trust and teamwork through open communication.
  • Formulate goals, standards, and objectives for the group; establish a plan to achieve them, develops a budget corresponding to the plan, and ensure accurate management of resources.
  • Lead continuous improvement processes, techniques, and goals. Responsible for making judgments on equipment and processes to apply with the objectives of saving time and materials using continuous improvement tools.
  • Expected to foster a climate to improve working conditions and equipment to increase efficiency of staff by using continuous improvement processes and methods.
  • Develop and train staff to promote growth and accomplish work safely and efficiently.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external staff.
  • Effectively motivate and reward staff. Provide a safe, secure, and supportive work environment.
  • Performance manage team: Set expectations, supervise performance, and hold individuals accountable (positive/negative).
  • Recommend various personnel actions, including but not limited to hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules. Recommend self and staff professional development opportunities.
  • Seek and promote a cooperative work environment between assigned group and various divisions and departments.
  • Must be adept at delegation and reviewing processes in operation to ensure objectives are met.
  • Work with management to implement established laboratory safety and work control policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Responsible for the achievement of designated performance standards and policies. Ensure appropriate records are maintained and reports are issued accurately and timely.
  • Ensure appraisals, team, and personnel matters within the group are timely and accurately dispositioned.
  • Manage applicable collective bargaining agreements and work to resolve active grievances.
  • Ensure staff work to drawings, schematics, and work specifications to produce successful outcomes applying modern techniques and tools of the trade.
  • Follow-up on completed work to ensure compliance with drawings, schematics, and work specifications; instruct personnel concerning finishing work needed.
  • May be required to respond to operational and maintenance activities seven days per week, twenty-four hours per day.


Minimum Requirements:
  • HS diploma and 6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • INL level Maintenance Manager/Supervisor Qual
  • Knowledge in basic theory of the following:
  • Asset Suite
  • Landfill Operations
  • Heavy Equipment Operations
  • NCCCO Certified Crane Operator/ Crane Operations
  • Refueling Efforts
  • Excess Property Moves
  • Defendable Space Mowing Procedures and Process
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" / "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
