INTERNSHIP – Market Design
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO invites applications for two full-time summer interns on the Market Design team.
This intern will work on one of the following projects:
Capacity Market Design
This intern will assist the Market Design Team in its efforts in the Modeling Capacity Accreditation Project. This individual will work with experts across the company to develop and explore enhancements to the Resource Adequacy model to add or enhance modeling techniques and methodology to more accurately account for reliability risks in the Resource Adequacy model. The intern will also prototype and implement the enhancements, review results, and summarize the information for broader distribution, both internally and externally.
New Resource Integration
The focus of this intern will be to research and produce a report on the ever-increasing opportunities for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to provide retail services. The intern will detail each of the opportunities, compare and contrast when/how DER can participate in one or more retail programs vs. when they must select one they will participate in.
- Current enrollment in Engineering, Economics, and/or Energy Policy program
- Ability to read and understand sate policy documents, utility tariffs and Requests for Proposals
The NYISO takes pride in recruiting, developing and retaining highly talented individuals. Our summer internship programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State's energy future.
All offers of employment will be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screening and background check.
