INTERNSHIP – Electrical Engineering – Technology Development
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO invites applications for a full-time summer intern on the Technology Development team.
The Technology Development team performs prototyping and simulation efforts to help the market design and operations teams understand the implications of market design proposals before they are presented to stakeholders for approval. The team leverages the re-run functionality built into the NM platform to perform these simulations. It is important for a new team member to understand how to customize the rerun functionality for market design simulations.
The project will be focused on building functionality to rerun different production days of the year in a current build environment by pulling in load profiles, outage data and bid data for selected days and superimposing the information on a recent build environment to be able to rerun simulations for a wider sample of days than what is currently possible. The sample of days that can be tested currently is limited to the software build deployed on the NM servers which allows the user to select a sample from within the last two months. This project will allow the user to select historical days beyond the 60 days that is currently possible.
The intern will document how the current functionality works and develop additional functionality to enhance the existing framework to support the team's needs.
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering or related program required. Graduate level candidates preferred.
- Strong programming skills required.
The NYISO takes pride in recruiting, developing and retaining highly talented individuals. Our summer internship programs give young professionals the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of New York electricity markets, bulk electricity systems and how we plan for New York State's energy future.
All offers of employment will be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screening and background check.
The NYISO is an Equal Opportunity Employer and as such, does not discriminate in its hiring or employment practices.
